A botched wedding proposal between two smalltown youngsters quickly spirals into a nocturnal Montreal odyssey of chaos, confusion and destiny.
An emerging voice on the Independent film scene, GAVIN HEFFERNAN has successfully turned more than a few heads with his ambitious feature film, EXPIRATION. Born an only child on the outskirts of Toronto, Canada, Heffernan immersed himself in film from a perversely early age. While substituting cinema for siblings, Heffernan's bipolar dependency on movies began to materialize.
After a chance high school jobshadowing assignment on Adam Rifkin's Detroit Rock City, Heffernan's etheral dreams of moviemaking became significantly more tangible. By the time Rifkin called on Heffernan to shoot the Night at the Golden Eagle documentary in Los Angeles, Gavin was well into writing EXPIRATION, his seventh screenplay. A self-proclaimed literary disciple of Ernest Hemingway, Aaron Sorkin and Stephen King, Heffernan's writing presents a carefully measured combination of classical style and intentional immaturity, prompting Ain't it Cool news to write "Heffernan's a damn smart writer and Expiration is the exciting first step in what should be an exciting career."
Shot on a microbudget over Heffernan's final two years at McGill University in Montreal, EXPIRATION has been incredibly well received by buth critics and audiences, selling out festival screenings in New York and Los Angeles. In many ways, Heffernan's evolving directorial style reflects both the diversity and instability of his international upbringing. Having lived extensively in London, Toronto and Montreal, Heffernan recognizes the fundamental importance of Hollywood entertainment, while seemingly placing great weight on the key aesthetic principles of European cinema. With his newly founded company Sunchaser Pictures, Heffernan is hard at work, developing projects for both the big and small screen. With these new experiences, new opportunities and new companions, his childlike dependency has only intensified.
